The Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) has stated that the
emergence of Alhaji Umar Mohammed Nasko as the Niger State
gubernatorial candidate is a symbol of hope for youths in Nigeria.
The body, in a letter signed by Ahmed Adamu, the president of the
council which was made available to journalists yesterday in
Minna, it described his emergence in the contest under the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a positive move towards youth
participation in governance, hence it portends hope for Nigerians
youths.
The council, in the letter, said it has decided to honour him with
the award of Grand Peace award as a shining beacon of leadership
example among African youths. He said the award will also serve
as a motivating factor for youths.

According to the letter the council associates itself with the
leadership roles among youthful Africans adding that Nasko who is
presently the youngest governorship candidate in Nigeria has
emerged as a role model for youths in leadership position in the
continent.
“For a very long time, youths have been advocating for
involvement in leadership processes, and many times, we are told
that we do not have the experience. If we are not given the
chance, how can we have the experience.”
“You are now the answer to our question. Youths are now given
the chance, and we will do everything humanly possible to ensure
success of this rare opportunity, so that we can dispel the cynics
that still doubt the youths’ capability. We will also confer on you
the status of the Grand Peace Ambassador under the Y- CAEV.”
